Norris Leads Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at all of the previous five race weekends.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the title advantage from Piastri by just one point after winning in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before sprint qualifying set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the championship fight, lying 36 points behind Norris, ended up in 17th position as his team opted for a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, if briefly, when he lost control at Turn Four during the early running.
The Japanese spun out over the track edges before rotating through the run-off area, and was fortunate to escape with just a slight brush of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the conclusion of the practice, spinning around through the fast downhill corner leading to the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in 19th, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, 0.619secs slower than Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
