Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and bringing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
In the teaser reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is why Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
